Connaught House, Mount Abu

This delightful English cottage was formerly the official summer residence of the Chief Minister of the princely state of Mewar. Neat, compact and surrounded by impeccably maintained gardens, the cottage is at walking distance from the Nakki Lake and Mount Abu, but is most valued for the repose and retreat it offers in itself.

The 14 air-cooled rooms are all designed for comfort rather than pomp and repeat the same understated elegance that begins at the lobby area.

Historical background

West of Udaipur, about a 185 km drive away, is the verdant retreat of Mount Abu. At 1200 m, it well deserves the title of hill station and it is the only hill station in the state of Rajasthan. It was also therefore logically the summer residence of the erstwhile rulers of Mewar. Mount Abu is a sleepy town, which however comes alive to the froth of frolic of passing visitors who come, most often in summer months, to beat the heat, to take in the sights from the various viewpoints, go boating on the Nakki Lake or principally, to visit the remarkable and unique Dilwara Jain Temples. The Vima Vasahi (1031 AD) and Tejpal Temple (1231) are particularly spellbinding with their intricate carvings.
Mount Abu has a summer festival every June that brings together a joyous blend of classical and folk performances and general merry-making.
